This one has Echo team doing an extraction of US hostages in Iran and as soon as they get out he has to go back in for a second mission. But he finds backup from a new ally. Granted the group she works for is known by Mr Church, just not Joe. As they work together to stop the nukes from going off, the reader finds out more about this ally and the people she comes from. This one does have flashbacks telling of the founding of the group of the bad guys. And the new group is very secretive for good reason. A great story and leaves the reader wanting more.
Aliens and alien tech in the wrong hands is the crux of this book. Lots of countries have been trying to get a working craft out of the tech from crashed spaceships but now the aliens have kidnapped the president and they want all their toys back. Of course, there are people who don’t want to give it up and use it to start a war. Joe must find copies of all the documents and gather it up so the president will be returned.
Thanks to someone stealing samples of pathogens that have featured in previous books, Echo team is up against some of the same shit they have fought before but with an all-new villain. And it seems that said villain has figured out a way to beat their supercomputer Mindreader. The good guys win in the end. I also did like the shoutout to Dragoncon for the finale of the book.

This has someone taking over drones and using them to attack Smaller ones hit a baseball game on opening day. Larger ones take out a team member’s family and even bigger ones almost kill members of Echo team. The bad guy behind this is a bit surprising but the justice that Joe delivers is great. Mr Church even gets in on the action as well.

The second book has Mops and her small crew trying to figure out how to beat the Krakau and expose just what really happened on Earth to cause the plague. So the Pufferfish heads to Eath with some codes from allies and land on Earth to find that not every human turned into a brain eating Zombie and they have worked hard to preserve Earth’s culture and stay under the radar of the Krakau there in a secret lab. The overall story is good, and a new plot element is added at the end that will keep the readers wanting more.
#87 Abandoned in Death by by J.D. Robb
Dec. 31st, 2021 12:59 pmThere is a serial killer working that remakes his victims into what they label as a bad mommy. The clothes and makeup are dated so Eve and her team work with Mira to find someone that have the ultimate in mother issues. There is a lot of flashbacks in the book to tell the story of the original bad mommy as the story progresses that flesh out what drove the killer to do it. A tight story as usual from JD Robb and I can’t wait for the next one.
Jamie just got laid off from a food delivery startup at the beginning of the pandemic. After six months of getting by delivering for his former employer he delivers to someone he knew casually in college and Tom offers him a job with an NGO that works with large animals. The job description is lifting heavy things but Tom needs someone now and can he at least knows Jamie. Jamie gets hired and then the real fun begins with the new job because the animals are really large and not on this Earth. Lots of fun jokes about science and current situations with the big bad in this book being greedy businessmen. I hope there will be more books in this setting but even if this is a one off it was a lot of fun.

This is a collection of shorts that have been mostly previously published with a few new ones. You get the prequel story to Patient Zero and several other stories. The one I really liked had been referenced in another book but only as one line, so it was nice to see the entire thing. A good collection for fans of the series but may not be the best for someone to try if they don’t like spoilers for things that happen in the series.
EMP bombs are the main problem in the story and for the most part the power does come back but the chaos it causes in its wake makes a great terror weapon. Combined with some nifty tech that allows the bad guy to use remote viewing and actually take over a host then you have to wonder just who is controlling the bad guys. There is a new minor character introduced in this book and it is a bit refreshing to see someone that isn’t written as a super competent person as so many people in the DMS are. The bad guy is stopped in the end but the damage he does to the DMS and the government is pretty big.
Jin is the last of the royal family after the King’s Lapidary has poisoned them all and his family of lapidaries that serve the royal family. Lin and Sima are the last of each their families and together they will try and defeat the invading army. The Royal family with the help of their lapidaries use the magical gems to protect the land and make it comfortable for everyone. But the stronger gems are always trying to take over and control them and that is what happened to Sima’s father. Neither of them was given a full set of lessons since it was Jin’s role to be married away from the court. Both of them working together will try and beat the general as she is taking over their lands.

This book builds on so much of the previous books and that makes sense since this is the last book in the series. Never fear though there is a spin off. So much of what Joe and the DMS team have done to try and keep the world safe will come back to be used against them in this book. The bad guys are using tech from Extinction Machine to cause earthquakes in Washington DC. There is a lot of flashbacks with the bad guys so you know just how long the wheels have been in motion for the action to happen in this book. The DMS still hasn’t gotten back to full strength from actions in previous books and they are seriously hampered by bad guys that are in the government. A good story with lots of people from the series making at least a cameo on the page.
This is the spinoff of the Joe Ledger series, but it still features Joe. The DMS is no more and now it is Rogue Team International, which is also the name of the new series. Something was released in the air and everyone on a tiny island near North Korea has turned everyone against each other and no one is left alive. Since now Rogue Team International works more with a tacit blessing of the UN there is more cooperation and international focus for the book. A video filmed of the islanders attacking one another with info that the US and South Korea was behind it is suppressed for a little bit but it does get out as a second attack happens on a South Korean island. Everyone at Rogue Team is trying to stop it and find out what is causing this rage, and who is behind the attacks. The person behind the attacks is a surprise to the group and they will stop at nothing to get him
