I listened to the audio version of this and it does build on the previous books. The main mystery starts with a bombing at a charity event killing the speaker. The plot quickly unfolds that this is a revenge plot against a group of lifelong friends. As usual with the series the officers catch another case while working the bombing, so the tension is there of being pulled between the two cases. And then Zach helps out a friend figure out who robbed their private high stakes poker game that could have implications with his work partner. I thought this was a bit much to add to the storyline and for some reason I wasn’t as entertained with this book as the previous four. I’ll give it one more try before I set the series aside.
