I actually had to check the word count on this and it is a novel since it is past the 40k word count. It is short and reads quite quickly.  A man goes back to the area of his childhood home and slowly remembers the events of when he was a seven year old. It is set up as a flashback and the ending is where the power of the events that happened back then reflect and shape his entire life. A good tight read and I think if it was a fatter book it would have lost some of its punch.

Did you have a digital copy to do the word count? What format? I have Kindle for PC and I never noticed that feature.

SPOILERS!!!!

I really liked it. Unlike some reviewers, I see the ending as optimistic. There is a hope that one day something maybe fixed, just not at the time story starts or ends. Sorry to be vague but I really do not want to give away the ending.

I googled it. He said in an interview he was surprised it clocked in at 56k. The ending left a window of hope there.
