A prequel story to the Souless universe that introduces the reader to Alexia Tarabotti’s father.  He is in Egypt working for the Crown but he also gets caught up in social obligations. A fun read that can be read at any point in the series.

This portal fantasy has Evelyn jumping through a mirror to save herself from her vampire ex-girlfriend bent on getting some jewelry back that she snagged on her way from escaping the ex’s mother.  She finds herself treading water and pulled aboard a pirate ship where her choices are a lifetime of service to the Great Hunt or death.  She now has to try and find a way out of this deal, and she is also falling for the captain that commands the ship patrolling the waters.  An entertaining light romp and a good beginning to this series.

Graves is back and he needs to solve another case, with the usual time deadline and wearing a dead man’s body and only flashes of memory from the victim he hits ground running.  His FBI friend is back to work and once again she is helping him to solve the case.  She isn’t the only previous character to show up again and it is nice to see some continuity. Overall, a good read and I can’t wait to see more.

Cleric Chih arrives to the Singing Hills Abbey to find his mentor’s remains the cause of a feud between his fellow monks and the royal granddaughters on their battle mammoth he left behind.  Chih hasn’t been at the abbey in years, and they now see things and people that they saw as a child in a different light. Grief and change are the two main themes here and as always it is a joy to see Chih move along their path.

A fun enemy to lovers type SF romance. Vesper is a lab rat that figured out too much bad stuff and now her boss is planning on killing her.  When she is dumped into a group of conscript soldiers with no way to communicate, she manages to survive and save the life of Kyrion. Now the two of them have a psychic bond they don’t want and must work together to uncover the plot and save Kyrion from one of the Emperor’s plots.   There isn’t a HEA at the end of this but there is a second book.  It was entertaining and Im sure I’ll get around to reading the next one.
