#38 Crudrat by Gail Carriger, J. Daniel Sawyer (Narrator)

 

Maura was almost one of the chosen Progenitors but her body rejecting the implant has her cast aside living hand to mouth on the station that doesn’t see her as a citizen even though she was born there. Now too tall to do the one bit of work that children like her do to survive she casts her lot in with an alien and tries to make a new life for herself.  Once she helps the alien escape from the station police with the help of another crudrat, she has to unlearn all the things she has been taught about herself. She learns a lot about herself and how life is different outside of the Progenitor’s station.  A good short story and I’m glad she is writing more in this universe.
