When Harry meets Renee, ok now that cutesy line is out of the way we can get to the meat of the story. Renee catches Harry poking through the cold cases. After explaining the situation, she reluctantly agrees to help him out. Harry is trying to solve Daisy’s murder as a promise to her mother that he met in the previous book. Her mother is a recovering addict that Harry is letting stay at his house to the detriment of his relationship with his daughter. Harry is also still working down in San Fernando trying to clear a cold case. Things get messy with that case but there is no overlap between the two. The ending left the feeling that Harry may have crossed a personal line. Not really sure what will happen next, but I can’t wait to find out.

With the comic going on a hiatus after this collection it leaves the reader with a bit of a shocking ending. The Prince is trying to do what he can to start a new life no matter the cost. The Will is still under someone else’s thumb and Hazel and her parents are still on the run. I will not say more but the comic pulls no punches with the storyline at all.

With this book you get to meet Jane Austin and her family. The big bad from Sebastian’s military past is back in England and it seems that he hasn’t forgotten about Sebastian either. The real problem with him trying to get at Sebastian while he is trying to solve a murder is that other people get hurt. By the end of the book you find out just how much Jarvis loves his unconventional daughter. The nugget of history in this one has to do with Charles I missing head and I really like how history is blended into this series.

This series of novellas can really be read out of order so reading this one first will not ruin any of the other stories. Katherine is a bookish girl with no real friends due to her father being the principal at school. One day she finds a door in a tree that takes her to the Goblin Market. Everything is exchanged for fair value and if you don’t give fair value you accrue debt and can become a bird. Katherine goes back and forth between the worlds and can’t wait to make her final decision on her 18th birthday. But everyone wants what they see as a fair value trade from her on both sides of the door. A great story and we meet Lundy again in this one after meeting her in the first book, Every Heart a Doorway.

The latest in a long line of anthologies set in the world of Valdemar. The nice thing for dedicated readers is there are a few stories in here that follow a set of characters from previous years. The plus is the stories are stand alone and yet if read year after year do build upon one another. The collection makes for a great dip into world to get your fix. Not every story is about heralds and that is for the better since there is so much to this universe that has been build over the years. And the final story is an early days story about Need.

Set after a global weather disaster that the Navajo protected themselves from by use of their magic as they built a wall around their tribal lands. Magic, gods, and monsters are now walking the lands. Maggie is a one time apprentice to a monster hunter that is a child of two gods. When he disappears, she is the last resort people turn to get a child taken by monsters back. Coyote needs Maggie to go after a monster and she works with someone she has never met before but is the grandson of a man she trusts.
Great world building in this book and well developed characters. This book deserves all the talk around it and I will not be surprised to see it on some ballots next year. Can’t wait for the next one.

This is a anti vax medical horror novella. Mira Grant does great stories that use science as a jumping off point. In this book a new deadly version of measles breaks out and it pits people against one another bout vaccinations. The new version is a mutation that is fairly deadly, and people are very worried. No one is claiming responsibility for it and six months later a deadly version of whooping cough races around the world. The family of the first victim is the focus of the story and the family is split between pro and anti-vaccination. On the pro side is a doctor and a pharmacist, the anti-side is the bio mother who gave up her child to allow her pharmacist sister to raise her as her own. Dr Isabella Gauley gets word from pharmacist friends of Brooke in Canada that the people that survive exposure have a mutated immune system that will no longer allow current vaccinations to work. She decides to take matters in her own hands and reach out to people that can help her keep a segment of the population clean from the disease as the CDC and others work on a cure.
