The fallout from the previous book has Bosch done with the LAPD and is now a private investigator and a volunteer officer at a small department so he can keep his hand in police work. He gets a large check offered to him to just meet with a client that wants utmost secrecy to find a possible child. Intrigued he takes the case and tries not to let it cross over in a case of a serial rapist that is hunting in the city of his new police job. He has the usual clashes with brass even if there are less brass to worry about.
The nice thing is neither job feeds into the other but the switching between cases does stop the momentum of solving them. In the end both cases are solved and we also get some of Haller in the book as well. Another great read and I will now just have to wait for the next one.
