missingvolume: (books cats)
I actually had to check the word count on this and it is a novel since it is past the 40k word count. It is short and reads quite quickly.  A man goes back to the area of his childhood home and slowly remembers the events of when he was a seven year old. It is set up as a flashback and the ending is where the power of the events that happened back then reflect and shape his entire life. A good tight read and I think if it was a fatter book it would have lost some of its punch.

The more I kept reading the book, the less and less I was rooting for anyone to finish getting the parts up the the Builder ship. And the last part of summing up who the Builders were and why they were doing it just felt like I read a 3 book prequel to a whole new series.  If you like two fisted SF with a heavy dystopian feel then this is for you. But I think I am done here.

Don't know what to get the person on your list that likes cats? Get this, it is cute and will bring a smile to anyone's face that has ever had a cat. Based on a web cartoon but not necessary to have any prior knowledge to enjoy this book. Cute pastel colors and a rotund gray cat that is nothing like Garfield, how can you go wrong.

Well I am caught up on reviews and behind on the reading again. Good news is no plans this weekend so I should knock out several things hopefully.
