#49 On the Edge by Ilona Andrews

A new series that isn't set in her other series universe. There is the normal world [Broken]and a magic world [Weird]  and then there is a borderland [Edge]  where less talented live and work in the normal world. Rose works hard to care for her brothers at an off the books job in the Broken due to having no papers.  She is a strong magic worker and is seems to always be on guard for attacks from people wanting her magic or to have her be their broodmare to have talented children. A noble of the Weird hooks up with her to defeat magical constructs that are attacking residents of the Edge. This comes off as a Kiss Me Kate type of romance and it works with Rose being a very strong personality.  I enjoyed it and read the sample chapters for the next book which seem to follow one character from this book but set in a different location.
