The second book is as good as the first and the plus is yes he goes over what happens it doesn't kill the reader if they haven't read the forst one. Everyone is back in this book and Atticus is dealing with the fallout of the battle and the cleanup of the site. The book deals with his alliance with the rest of witches and having to defend them from outside attackers. He also defends the town that is now on the magical map as somewhere tasty to be because of the power vaccum due to the results of the previous book. A good solid read and I'll be reading the 3rd one at some point.
