#26 In Fire Forged by David Weber, Jane Lindskold & Timothy Zahn

 I will admit to skipping over all the tech stuff that was in the last part of the book. I was only interested in the 3 short stories and not geeking out to all the tech specs for the ships and such. The Weber selection was early days Honor fighting piracy and knocking heads with Manpower. A nice touch to bring later series plot lines into early character timeline. The Lindskold story follows Judith, a refugee that she has written about before and Zahn does the same thing in writing another story featuring someone from one of his previous Honorvese stories. A good read for fans of the series but not a good jumping in point since half of the book would leave you a bit confused as to lots of background but a great addition for fans of the series.

I must admit that the techie stuff tends to make my eyes glaze. I usually glance until I run out of how many KPS^2 the missiles travel.

Then again, I do the same with gun-geeking, I don't care how many TPI a suppressor has, or how large a bullet is being used by the good/bad guy(s) I want to know what happened.

Now waiting for the screams of "Heretic! Apostate! Unbeliever!" et c.

Well I'll be next to you once they read my following statement. I think Weber is too wordy and should really tighten up his writing. I find myself skimming sometimes just because it seems to be filled with too much fluff and I like the Honorverse

The political stuff is interesting to me, futuristic tech stuff in huge quantities, much less so, approaching nil.

In re.: Honorverse: I'd like more about the treecats. They're more interesting than most of the people.

Oh yea the treecat culture should be very interesting to delve into. I wonder if we will get more of it in the new YA series.

It's been interesting to see the direction Toni is very slowly moving Baen into. I mentioned it to her at Ravencon and got a sneaky grin in response.
