missingvolume I got this from the library because I had picked up the second book in the series and I hate to read the second book without having read the first one even when I'm told they are written as stand alone novels. The first book was put out by Luna but the romance in it is very light. The series has jumped publishers and now can be found under the DAW line.
Esther is a chorus girl in an off Broadway magic show and the understudy for the main female lead. When the female lead disappears during the magic box trick of the act Esther is ready to step in the role but is quickly warned off by notes warning her of danger if she does. Turns out that people doing this one trick are disappears but not reappearing. Esther finds out her mystery note writer is a wizard that is trying to to find out what is going on. Esther latches onto him and recruits help from friends of the other disappeared women. It was a nice fluff read but if I didn't all ready have the second book purchased I'm not sure how fast I would have tracked down the next one to read.
