The Weapon by Michael Z Williamson

I had put off reading this simply because it was a thick book and I didn't feel like diving into the story. I enjoyed Mike's previous book and since this is set in the same universe I was confident I would like it as well. This one was darker than the previous just in the fact that the hero is a black ops guy. The ending left me hanging about what will happen to our hero. I have to admit I'm more interested in what happens on his home planet as time goes by with the actions that happened in the book. Yes I'm being vague about the details but I really don't want to spoil the book for anyone who does read it.

I liked it, but it was much darker than i prefer.

But it was nessary for the way the story line was going. Not sure I agree or disagree with the actions in the book. It made sense to Freehold but I don't think I could have done that.

Oh for the story line it was dead on, but the main character was a little to... smarmy?

I preferred this one to Freehold, although I'm more partial to dystopic settings (or at least "functional-but-still-screwed-up") than utopic settings, which may explain part of the feeling.

And I agree, I'm not sure I could do the same actions as the Weapon. Then again, I'm not sure I could do any of the military things anyway. I have too much of a need to know why.

I liked the Freehold better just because it was a different setting. Granted I don't think it really is possible though.
