#90 Way Station by Clifford D. Simak

I read this for my book club and I really liked it. The book starts slowly and builds up as the book goes along. Enoch is a Civil War veteran that is approached by an alien in need of someone local to run a galactic way station. If he is in the way station he doesn't age and now it is the 1940's and the wider world has become aware of him. There is also some galactic politics involved in the story and the problems in the story get solved a bit too easy and pat but it didn't detract from being a good read.
