The FBI come to see Sookie about the events in All Together Dead. Their investigation in her is derailed by the death of Jason's wife when her body is put on display after the weres reveal to the world they are real in much the same fashion the vampires did prior to the first book. What I was sad to see in this book is some minor charachters I liked will not be coming back due to the end of the storyline in the book. I don't want to go into any detail and just let the reader find out. I'll be waiting for the next one to see if the FBI will be coming after Sookie again or if she will try to hide from them.

I've read the series through the book prior to this one; everything I've heard tells me I shouldn't read this one if I want to keep my good feelings about the series. :(

The ending did feel rushed. People die and she completely stops anything else happening in one of her ongoing story lines. I felt like it was done to make it easier to possibility ignore in the ongoing HBO series. and Sookie becomes even more involved with the vampires. Hard call for me to make for you but if you are getting advice to not read it then you might want to wait until the next one comes out and see what she does with that one.

I've read lots of the one-star reviews on Amazon, for example, that talk about how rushed the whole book seemed, and how uncharacteristically mean and hardened Sookie seems to be acting, and how a particular scene with Eric seemed tacked-on and glossed over, and yes, how some minor yet nifty characters are just... done away with in a rather callous way.

I've watched the first 8 or so episodes of the HBO series.

Exactly what they were saying. I think this is pivot book in the series. Not sure how it is going but we shall see. MaryJanice Davidson did that with her last Betsy book but she warned readers it was coming.
