This is the book that kicked off the Showtime series. I gave it a whirl and it is an interesting antihero book. With it being set in Miami, it becomes very easy for me to see where all the action is going on. I did like that you find out what makes Dexter tick instead of dragging that out for books and books.   I'll be picking up the next two in the series and reading them as well.

I read the two that I could find after the first season and before the second

Its a neat split between the series and the books. I actually like that the seconds have nothing to really do with each other. I never really felt compelled to find the similarities and therefore felt like I was getting more Dexter for my time.
A very rare occurance when a show doesnt follow the book

I read both the sequels (have not seen the show). Not as good, especially the third. The second has some interesting developments, but the actual mystery ... eh, I don't want to spoil it for you. I am looking for the forth book to come out, since it is indicated in the third, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope that Lindsey will pull it off after the stupid people tricks he used in the third book.
