Thanks for that. I've been wondering about giving Stross a try and I think I will. I haven't read any of the books in his The Merchant Princes series either but have been meaning to. I remember you recommending them.
Speaking of Singularity Sky, I too have been woefully behind on my SF reading but for Spin and the sequel, Axis by Robt. Charles Wilson. Both are excellent and Spin brought back that Sensawonder™ thrill — I haven't read that in new SF for years!
