This book follows what happens to Imriel in his teenage years. The book does a nice touch filling in the back story on the last three books without it being painful or obvious. What was also nice is that you know there will be more books coming after this one but there is a nice conclusion and you are not left hanging at all. A hefty read clocking in over 700 pages but it didn't feel like the story dragged at all.

Read #1 on the advice of a friend: It was entertaining, I passed it along to friends, although it had heavy elements of chick lit and chick soft core (hey, I read the male equivalent, too)
Read #2 bc I found a cheap paperback: It was at best, average, not worth buying the next.
Read #3 bc I found the hardback on sale for $1: Wasn't worth the time to finish it, except of course that I did.

Is #4 redemption, or more of the same, in your opinion? I think that Imriel's mom would be fish food in any book that remotely treated human emotions with any accuracy.

For you then I would say skip it. His mom goes missing and of course no one can find her. But that is surprisingly not much of the plot.
