This is a sorta prequel/ sequel to the Newsflesh trilogy. No you don't need to have read any of the previous stories but if you had you know the outcome of the story. The setting is at San Diego Comic Con when the zombies first started to appear. It is a bittersweet read and the sad part is you meet these interesting people and you know they are not going to survive the night. Not something to read when you are mopey. This was also one of the Hugo nominated novellas I read in order to vote the ballot.

Part of me is tempted to buy it now and the other half is pretty sure it will make the Hugo ballot again so I'll get it in the voter packet. Glad to know it is happier. The novellas so far haven't been that upbeat.

It is sad but I found uplifting because the protagonists, most are fans, rise to the occasion and are heroic. I did not think it was a done deal that they would all be doomed, I thought some might have escaped.

They talk about the event in the trilogy so reading it after the trilogy you know it was an utter loss.
