#39 The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst

 

When the people are trying to burn down the library it is time to leave. Kiela and her Caz slip away with several crates of books on magic. She finds shelter at her parent’s abandoned home on another island.  Hoping to hide out fails immediately when she is noticed by a neighbor. Kiela realizes her plans of staying unnoticed will fail especially since Caz is a walking talking spider plant. Desperate to figure out a way to support herself and help the island since mages are no longer being sent to the island to help with magics that make life better, she decides to read and use the books she has saved.  But when a government official shows up all her plans start to unravel. This is a nice sweet story and I wouldn’t mind reading more in this setting.
