I had tried to read this before but set it aside because I didn’t click with it. The audio became available from the library and this time it worked it’s magic on me. We all know about the societies at Yale but there is another one that polices the magic the ones we know about. There are eight groups performing magic to the benefit of current and former members and the ninth house is the one that the other eight fund to police and clean up any magical problems. The one thing I thought was odd was there were so few members in the house, 3 students, a law enforcement officer and a dean at the university. Alex is not your typical Yale undergrad. She had dropped out of school and was found almost dead in a house where everyone else had been murdered or died of a drug overdose. She had been a user in order to control her ability to see ghosts. Yale found about her ability at a young age due to a social services report and watched her but didn’t make contact until they wanted her for themselves. With the offer of a full ride at Yale and a chance to walk away from the mess in California she jumps at the chance, but it isn’t easy for her. Things get even harder when the person that was supposed to train her disappears through a portal and now she is trying to find out what happened to Darlington, solve a murder that may or may not be done by one of the houses and continue keeping an eye on all the magic going on at the other eight groups.
