#81 Penric's Progress by Lois McMaster Bujold

This collection has the first three novellas about Penric. The first one covers how he got his demon Desdemona and becomes a priest of the Bastard god. The second has him pairing up with a priest of the Father god to find a shaman that might be guilty of murder. It also covers shamen and how they are different then the Five Gods. The third novella has him working again with the shaman and the priest from the previous book to solve the murder of a priestess of the Bastard that also carried a demon. The setting is in her Five Gods universe but since these stories are not set in the same time frame as any of those books you don’t have to read them to enjoy this collection at all. Penric grows into his power and relationship with Desdemona as the stories move along and I can’t wait for the next collection.
