#75 Jade City by Fonda Lee

To wear jade in Kekon means you can tap into power you have trained years to do and you also belong to a clan that is both feudal and criminal. The main focus of the story is on the siblings of the Kaul family during a power struggle with another clan. Mountain clan has been stealing jade from the mines and brewing a chemical compound that allows people that normally can’t use jade to use and control it. As much as the jade warriors see themselves as warriors they are also criminals asking for protection money even when they gift the townspeople in the regions they control with holiday gifts. The overall story is great, and the magical use of jade makes sense. Can’t wait to see more in this setting.
