missingvolume: (books cats)
Ashok is a man that sees the world in black and white only. As a Protector, he enforces the laws that codify life on continent he lives on and fights demons that come ashore.  There is no mercy, no extenuating circumstances only life by the laws of man.  With the magic available to Protectors and a magical sword that gives the knowledge of every previous fight it has been used in since its creation, Ashok is a renowned fighter and staunch believer in his way of life.  Of course to have someone that only sees the world this way doesn’t work for people that want to play power games and don’t really care who gets hurt in the process.   The setting is interesting in that at some point there was sea travel and they know of distant lands but since the demons came there is no more ocean travel and anything to do with bodies of water is the worst thing.  I liked the world setup and the power plot was interesting.  I’ll probably add the next book onto the giant TBR stack when it comes out.
