missingvolume: (books cats)
The Ark has taken 10 generations to travel to a new colony world with the chosen survivors of Earth.  Bryan is a former sports star now police detective asked to find a missing crew member. To really be missing is very hard since everyone has a tracker installed in their brain before birth.  As he tracks down the missing scientist, he finds there are long hidden secrets on the ship between the crew and the passengers that will come out at the worst time possible as the ship is preparing to slow down and approach their new home.   This is mostly a mystery police procedural set in space and I really enjoyed it. I want to see what happens next as they actually start their colony.

missingvolume: (books cats)
This is an introduction to a new urban fantasy series. Witches are out in the open and working with their powers in the mainstream life. The Church still doesn’t care for them and would love to get their hands on an item that can identify witches and other supernatural creatures that have remained hidden from the public. Donata works for the police as a witch who calls the dead back and get the truth from them about how they died and what they were doing.  After solving a missing person’s case before the story starts she is now a rising star in the police chief’s eyes.  The ghost of the crime victim begs Donata to destroy the painting before it is taken by the Church to use against other supernatural. Everyone wants the painting and they go about several means of exerting pressure on her to have her do what they want.

A fun fast read and the story setting is interesting enough that I’ll be picking up the next one.
