#84 The Aeronaut's Windlassby Jim Butcher
Sep. 25th, 2015 04:40 pmThis fantasy setting has power coming from crystals that are used to power airships that protect various city towers. No one lives on the ground and each tower is its own city state with trade and border skirmishes abound. The story sets off with two girls starting in the spire guard. One is from an important family and has a cousin she can count on for support and knowledge about what she is getting into, the other is from a grand family name that has slowly slid down to the merchant level. They are quickly swept up into the beginnings of war with another spire that is sabotaging their city. Due to their quick thinking they are rewarded with at first glance is an unglamorous job of escorting someone important to the leader of the spire to find out what is going on. Of course lots of things happen and the reader learns more about the setting and characters as they all have to quickly react to what is going on. The second half of the book is nonstop action and shows the set up for the following books. The series looks to be a great one.
