Set in an alternate Paris, this book deals with a world ruled by Houses usually headed by Fallen angels. Angels fall from the sky and are easy prey for humans to try and harvest them for their magic while they are weak. Philippe is found by Selene starting to work on a newly Fallen. Selene is the head of House Silverspires and manages to rescue the Fallen and also bind Philippe to her house. But Philippe isn’t quite what he seems to be. A former soldier from the colonies unable to return home after the war, he has a magic that isn’t something that the Selene hasn’t seen. Against the backdrop of trying to escape from being bound, a revenge plot against Silverspires is going on. By the end of the book you have a better idea who Philippe is and the history of Silverspires. Even against the backdrop of houses warring for power this is a story of choices and dealing with the consequences.
