The sequel and conclusion to The Clockwork Dagger ties everything up and makes for good reading.  Octavia and Alonzo make it out of the wastes to the south and his family home.  Of course being safe doesn’t last long and Octavia finds herself on the road to the Lady’s tree with a very interesting travel companion.  This was a good read and nice world building within the story but you must read the previous book to get the most out of the story.

I love the Liaden books. This one feels more like a setup book to get everyone in place for the next story arc. Everyone that is one Surebleak is onscreen at some point during the story. Even the few members of Korval that are not on planet are mentioned. Most of the story is about setting the society of Surebleak on a better path and not devolving back to the time of it all being run by gangs.  There is a portion of the book also dealing with the agents of the Department  that are currently in the care of Korval and what happens to them.  This is not the best  place for someone to start reading but with this book touching on almost everyone in clan Korval it can work  that way as getting an introduction to almost everyone that will be in future stories.

I haven’t read anything by Peter Brett but I went to a reading once and liked what I heard so I thought I would read some of his work. This turned out to be a great starting point for me to read. The book contains two novellas along with some deleted material from the series. What I got was several snapshots of what looks like some really great world building and nice character development since the two novellas are at different times in Arlen’s life. I enjoyed the book and now I’ve added The Warded Man to my ever growing TBR.
