#36 The Oversight by Charlie Fletcher

This is a new series set during the Victorian era with a group known as the Oversight is tasked to keep normal humans safe from the Fae. But it seems there are people that want to take them out and use the magical tools they have for themselves and will team up with the Fae in order to get rid of the last group of Oversight in England. The numbers of them has dwindled due to was a generation ago. The setup of the story was good and I'm interested to see what will happen with this. I have heard several people compare it do Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, but I have to say it is ha a bit of that feel but certainly isn't written with any footnotes.

#37 The Son by Jo Nesbø

If you haven't known where to start on Jo Nesbø then this is the book for you. The book starts in prison with a guy that all the other prisoners confess their sins to and they seem to get a feeling of absolution from him.  Sonny for all accounts looks as if he will always be in prison taking the blame for other people's crimes in order to have a cushy life and endless stream of drugs in his cell. This is his reaction to his policeman father killing himself while he was  teen and leaving a note stating he was corrupt. Neither he nor his mother handled it well and both of them turned to drugs to cope. The son committing crimes to pay for his habit and his mother eventually overdosing. But someone confesses to him that his dad was set up and Sonny uses every person he knows in  prison to break out and then wrecks havoc on everyone that had a part in his downfall.  One cop quickly figures out who is committing the crimes and is intentionally slow to help the national police due to his connection to the family.  Overall a great story and good tension and a nice twist to the end. A very enjoyable read.
