The killer isn't that smart in this book just very lucky. The B story has to do with Roarke's family coming into town for Thanksgiving. Dallas as usual gets jittery with the idea of family around and the bonus of having Nixie in town from Texas with her new family to see the Thanksgiving Day Parade. The personal parts of the book felt like a turning point in the character growth of Dallas and I'm now wondering how much more we will get before Dallas settles down to actually have a family with Roarke. [ The ending of the series from what I have heard]. All in all an entertaining read and I'll be waiting on the next one.

This is a spin off from the author's Allie Beckstrom series. I wasn't too far behind the eight ball reading this and there was good background info sprinkled in the story without the infodump feeling. Shame and Terric are Soul Complements, able to work large magic in a world that magic has been dampened down. By "breaking" the magic they are able to get it back to its full power level and since that is a rare thing it seems people are hunting Soul Complements to use them.  Dessa is trying to hunt down the person that killed her brother and her path crosses with Shame's and it seems they have the same person to hunt down. They click on an emotional level and it seems to bring Shame out of a funk he has been in for a long time. An interesting world and I think I will have to look into reading the other books in the series.

There is a lot of hate for this little book and yet I liked it. The clues in the few bullets on some characters gives hope that she will continue to do some short stories in this universe even if the main players are done and set in stone such as Barry the Bellboy and Dahlia. I think if I was to do a reread of the series I would have this book next to me to see what happens to all the smaller cast members as I read about them.

As a plug for the store I also have signed copies of the book available.
