The fourth book in this series set in the Valdemar universe has Mags finding out the hard way a bit more about where he came from. Not the book for someone to jump into the series for the first time since you will miss subplots and only see the final outcome of things that have been cooking for the last several books. An enjoyable read overall.

This is a first for me I reread that I am going to review. I read this back in 2006 and I honestly didn't remember the plot of the story at all. My previous review says that I didn't care for the book but that it might have been at the wrong time to read it. Everything else I have read by Elizabeth Bear I have really liked so it was interesting to read this again. I liked the book and how Canada is a world superpower and corporations play a large role in society. Jenny is a badly scarred veteran who is half cyborg and is approaced by her former commander for an upgrade to use her to pilot a ship. Lots of powerplays and some wrap up of story plots but lots more to keep you wanting to read the other two books in the series.
