Woo hoo for stand alone fantasy. I like stand alone books so many times there is a series out and you feel overwhelmed by all the books you have to read to catch up. Well as far as I can tell this is the only one and boy is is a fun read. If you like comics and superheros then the setting will be familiar except the heroine of the story is not a hero but a child of two heroes of the city she lives in and the consequences of her teen rebellion against her parents. I really liked how the story unfolded and the ending.

I can't remember where I heard about this series but I recently gave it a read. I finished it but I will not be bothering with the rest of the books. The alternate history/parallel world was interesting but for humans to be down to 1% of the population and the rest being werewolves and vampires just felt a bit off for the numbers to support the vampires. And the twist that once you are a vampire or a werewolf you have no mental problems and this requires the government of this world to recruit a FBI profiler from our world to help hunt down a human that is killing vampires and werewolves. There were just little details that bothered me enough that it isn't worth my time to read any more books in the series. The divergent points in the history were interesting and events that were transformed in that universe were well thought out but not enough to make me want to read more.
