I first started reading the Darkover books when I was in middle school. Someone on my bus lent me The Spell Sword and I was hooked on the series from then on out. Granted I haven't read any of the newer co written Darkover books besides the Lackey one. So most of my Darkover reading was in the 80's. This book is book one of a trilogy and at least it had a good ending and yet did the little things like showing the villain plotting on the last page to set up the next book. I'm not ready to rush out and read the next one. I guess when I know I've got time on my hands I'll get the next book knowing it is there but not going to track it down ASAP. The book is at a good point in the history of Darkover since you don't have to know about the families and the interconnected relationships to keep everything clear.
