This is the second of the Bast mystery series. I read the first one last year so some of the details that this book kept referring to were a bit blurry. Granted it could have been the lack of sleep doing that as well. Part Pagan politics, part Tudor history and the usual human greed blend to make up this book. The part I feel bad about reading is even though Bast is doing good things she is slowly parting from her coven and seems to be a bit rudderless. I have the next one out from the library so I'll give it a whirl to see if things happen that she seems to telegraph in the book.

This is the third book in the series. Events happen about 5 months after the last book. Bast still seems to be a bit adrift in her life. Events take place at campground to celebrate Halloween. A local Bible thumper is found murdered at the camp and Bast is the one to find him. It felt less like a mystery and more of here his Bast and some new people we can introduce into the story. Bast in the ends solves the murder by just finding all the supplies used in the murder and the murderer more than happy to say he did it since he was working on a ritual.

There are short stories that continue Bast's adventures but I wasn't excited enough about the series to track them down.
