I read this as part of the Hugo nominations ballot and I was surprised just how little SF or fantastical elements were in the story. The book was  a good mystery and I wonder just how many mainstream readers picked it up and read it without knowing the author's previous works. If I was voting I don't think I would vote for it, not because it wasn't a good read more that there was so little SF in it. Of course I'm sure people will disagree with me but it also doesn't stop it from being a good read.
