The book is set up in a future with rival empires fighting out planet by planet. One empire has made life after death possible in your body while the other has augmented the human body and makes planet wide Artificial Intelligences. This is part one of a series so nothing is really wrapped up in the end but you really only see one of the Empires and you only get a glimpse inside of the other side. I really enjoyed the book.

Well dang, that could be confusing. In my space opera "Demons of the Past", the main stellar nation is called the Risen Empire.

And they use that term the entire time. Oh well not like it hasn't happened before or will happen again.
