#47 Off Armageddon Reef by David Weber
Yes I got a review copy of this. The book is a new series that is coming out from Tor. The book has the usual Weber players in his plots. The strong hero/heroine that is the focus of all the action. The good guys are smart caring wise rulers. The bad guys are corrupt with power. Lots of long battle scenes.
The rest I'll put behind a cut so nobody can complain of being spoiled.
Ok everybody ready for possible spoilers? The hero is actually a heroine but instead of doing the usual disguise she has downloaded herself into an artificial body. On this planet it is run by men. So Nimue changes her body to appear male. No problem except every 5 or 6 chapters we get reminded of this. I hate being reminded over and over again. And the battles for me dragged on and on. I don't read Weber for his great battles and from what people tell me they are good. I read him for his characters he writes. The other complaint and this is minor is there were so few women in the entire book. And the one strong woman character that is introduced late in the book I have a feeling will be married to another strong character to cement an alliance in a later book.

glad I found your journal via The Missing Volume; hopefully I'll be doing some business there once my enquiries go through. :)
