Book #5 Smoke and Shadows by Tanya Huff

Huff can be hit or miss with me. I love her Keeper series and her short story collection but her Blood series was only ok. So I decided to read the spin off from the Blood series. This follows Tony, a former street hustler and Henry FitzRoy, a vampire.
Tony is now off the street and working as a PA for a low rated vampire tv series being filmed in Canada. Turns out there is a gate to another world on the set and the head FX person is a wizard from that world. The book suffered the usual weakness of setting up a new series and I almost felt like the entire book was to reveal "X" about Tony. No I'm not giving that point away. ;-)

I do have the second book sitting around and I'm sure I'll get to it before the end of the year.

A new author has to wow. An established one can take more chances.

Well I liked the Blood series but it didn't wow me. The Keeper series I read later and it was a Wow. She also does the Valor series as well. In the end sum she is someone I would recommend to a reader.

I don't have to be wowed with a book. At the minimum, I just need to enjoy the book and not feel that I wasted a few hours of my time.
