Looking for information about Texas and surrounding states SF cons

Let me start this with a statement, I am only looking at doing cons in the area. Nothing is in stone but I would dearly love some feedback.

I would like to get is names and webpages for cons in TX and the surrounding area. Lets call the surrounding states anything that is 10-12 hours of driving from the Texas border. The reason for that is I hate to be on the road driving to a con and it takes more than one day to get to it.

What I hoping for info wise is how big the con is, do they usually have writers and what kind of con is it and did you like it. Please don't send me info about a con if you or someone you know hasn't attended it.

Needless to say if you don't want to respond in LJ you can email it all to me because I want to hear warts and all. I don't want to go in blind like I did to a few cons in the past and found out the sizzle about the con didn't pan out for me at all.

Thanks in advance for any and all information you all can provide.

Um, world fantasy con is there next year.

And the GoH at http://armadillocon.org/about.htm is a friend of the Monkey's.

If you ask Barside Pam and Pogo both live in Tx, and Wendi's brother may or may not know of con's in Mississippi.
